On Friday 15th April Member of Parliament Devin L. Sears took part in a two-day Kite Distribution and outreach in the Berbice river, with stops mainly to Tacama, Calcuni, Kwakwani and Hururu Villages. This annual exercise comes at a time when riverine communities are rebounding from the global pandemic and some find it difficult to provide for their families. In an invited comment, MP Sears stated that no child should be slighted by uncontrolled circumstances, especially on the eve which symbolizes Christ’s resurrection, a season of joy and celebration; he hopes that as the kites are raised the hope for a better life, education, and improved livelihoods will be realized.

He also donated on behalf of Hon. Raphael Trotman, MP. a quantity of Children Life Jackets to the Hurruru Primary School. This good gesture came as a result of a commitment made to the community after noting the danger that lurks while traversing the Berbice River to and from school.

Ms. Walker who accepted the donation on behalf of the school expressed gratitude and said it will go to good use in ensuring the safety of the students. MP Sears plans to coordinate more outreaches in coming months which focuses on health, education and tourism.
