The Alliance For Change is deeply saddened at the passing of veteran broadcaster and
communication consultant Hugh Cholmondeley.
The well spoken and mild mannered Cholmondeley may best be remembered as the person
responsible for setting up the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and the training facility – CARIMAC at
Mona Campus, Jamaica.
A former General Manager of the Guyana Broadcasting Service, Cholmondeley also served as a media
consultant for the Guyana Elections Commission.
At the international level, he worked with the United Nations serving in Somalia as a coordinator for
humanitarian aid and rehabilitation.
In all of this, Cholmondeley remained a Guyanese at heart and a very humble person always willing
to share his vast knowledge especially with young reporters and media workers, always willing to
offer advice and encouragement. His legacy to the local, regional and international media fraternity
lives on.
For the AFC, Cholmondeley’s passing has affected us deeply as he is the father of our very own Cathy
Hughes.
To our sister Cathy and her family the AFC extends sincere, heartfelt condolences. May you and your
family find divine comfort in this difficult time. [END]
