The former Commissioner of Police and Head of the Joint Intelligence Unit, Laurie Lewis served his

country with distinction.

His tenure as ‘Top Cop’ was not during the easiest of times and though he resigned before the

crime wave that started 2002, Lewis always maintained an active interest in national security. His

contributions to the development of the Guyana Police Force and policing in general, especially the

establishment of Station Management Committees are well remembered.
