For giving expression as to how he feels the PPP Government is managing the affairs of this country and opining what should be corrective action, longstanding WPA Executive and activist Tacuma Ogunseye suffered maximum retaliation at the hand of the PPP Government through its Police agents.
The swift denunciation by President Ally and AG Nandlall, for words allegedly used by him at a March 9th public meeting at Buxton, led to a wanted-man bulletin by the Police, as if the well-known politician was some rampaging felon. Then the denunciation further led to his arrest over the entirety of last weekend apparently just for the sake of depriving him his liberty. And then further shackling him in foot chains, as if he would ever attempt to escape from custody, when carrying him to Court to plea to a bailable charge.
This series of action is nothing but a vengeful humiliation arranged by the PPP Government utilizing the instrumentality of the Guyana Police Force.
The PPP Government must know that it is stirring up outrage at the political and racial level when it goes to these ludicrous lengths to get back at one who it feels has committed a wrong.
The AFC asserts that this was not necessary State action, and repeats that Guyana is entering dangerous times. The fragility of our democracy is made even more fragile by this kind of treatment of a respected and responsible citizen. It is obvious that the PPP is using the State apparatus to ruthlessly drive fear into opposition activists.
Additionally, by such action the PPP is diverting attention away from its growing loss of popularity as a result of its massive corruption and bad governance.
