The AFC extends sympathies and solidarity to the peoples of Turkey and Syria
The peoples of Turkey and Syria have experienced a most devastating earthquake, which resulted in untold destruction and loss of lives. Sadly, reports from the region have estimated the death toll at more than 21,000, including many children and the elderly. For the people of Syria, it is another tragedy added to their living experience of war and internal conflicts for more than 12 years.
The Alliance for Change (AFC) extends sympathies and solidarity to the governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria, and to the affected families. No calibre of words can truly transmit the horror of the destruction seen on television or on social media, which forced the peoples into the streets in the middle of the night. We can only imagine how deeply frightening and debilitating it was for these families to be awaken so violently in search of loved ones and to find a safe place to shelter amid the destruction.
We would like to salute all the volunteers from across the world who have responded in a courageous display true humanitarianism and we call upon the Government of Guyana to extend support to the governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria on behalf of the Guyanese people.
