AFC Press Statement
Even as Guyanese continue to face extremely inflation particularly in the prices of basic food items, such as bread, sugar, cooking oil etc.
The AFC calls on the PPP government to stop the discriminatory manner in which the Hinterland/Riverine cash grant of $25,000 is being distributed.
The AFC is in receipt of numerous reports of corruption in the distribution of the cash grant, many reports particularly coming out of Bartica, in which residents in the same constituency are experiencing what the AFC considers blatant discrimination in which one part of the constituency is being given the cash grant and other parts of the same constituency not given the cash grant. In addition, there are numerous complaints from across the country in which residents in the hinterland/riverine communities are experiencing double standard, the same that was experienced in the distribution of the covid cash grant.
The AFC views the cash grants distribution mechanism under the PPP administration as chaotic and bias and calls on the PPP to spend tax payers’ dollars in an accountable and transparent manner without a political filter.
The AFC notes that even yesterday at the 48th sitting of the 12th Parliament the PPP tabled a supplementary financial paper to the sum of $44.794 billion. This provision once approved in the national assembly will take the total sum approved for the year 2022 to $597.694 billion.
However, this magnitude of spending has not been beneficial to the ordinary Guyanese with the inflation rates out of control and constant increase in cost of living.
The AFC calls on the PPP government to address the concerns of the hinterland/riverine residents as it pertains to the distribution of the cash grant and the discriminatory manner in which it is being distributed. The AFC also call on the PPP administration to urgently devise a plan to address the high cost of living being experienced by Guyanese.
