The Alliance For Change takes pleasure in congratulating Mr. Sydney Allicock, in recognition of his being selected to receive one of the Region’s three Laureates as part of the Anthony N. Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence. Sydney Allicock has earned the distinction of being an activist for Indigenous rights and community development for more than two decades. His contribution to forest conservation and management has also been outstanding.

His award is well deserved and should be seen as recognition of all indigenous people’s contributions of Guyana.  Sydney Allicock’s contribution to Guyana and the world began with him working alongside his father to highlight and gain recognition for indigenous people’s rights, culture and heritage in the formative stages of the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservaton and Development.

Mr. Allicok has served on the Boards of Iwokrama and the Bina Hill Institute with distinction and has pioneered the establishment of Radio Piomak, a UNESCO project in the Rupununi. All Guyana should be proud of this award given to its distinguished Macushi son of the soil.

The AFC also joins in congratulating the other Laureates Mr.  Adrian Augier of St Lucia and Dr. Kathleen Coard of Grenada.

                                                                                                                                    End.
