STATEMENT INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION 2022
The Alliance For Change joins with all Guyanese and the rest of the world to observe International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The theme this year is, “VOICES FOR ACTION AGAINST RACISM”, and according to the UN, it highlights “the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation in all areas of decision-making to prevent and combat racial discrimination; reaffirming the importance of full respect for the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and of protecting civic space; and recognizing the contribution of individuals and organizations that stand up against racial discrimination and the challenges they face.”
In a multi-cultural, multi-racial society such as ours, the importance of eliminating racial discrimination cannot be overstated. Our ancestors worked and forged a nation where all our peoples live in peace, where the cultures, religions and traditions are shared. This must never be taken for granted.
But despite the advances we have made in forging one nation of One People, there are still isolated instances of individuals who would seek to divide us. This must never be allowed, wherever we are, we must stand up and speak out against any and every form of discrimination.
We are One People, One Nation with One Destiny.
Long live the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
END.
