APNU+AFC MP’s walk out after continuous disrespect to our female MP’s by Minister Dharamlall
This afternoon’s review of the examination of the budget estimates while in the Committee of Supply of the National Assembly, ended abruptly after a day filled with continuous derogatory remarks directed to APNU+AFC female MP’s by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall M.P.
The final straw was when the Minister who was being questioned by a female M.P. from the opposition on a specific line item, and while being on the floor, responded to the question by stating “You got to get a dildo, that’s what you looking for”.
The Video clip is attached and we note that after this unacceptable and vicious comment the Speaker made no attempt to reprimand or correct the Minister.
APNU+AFC Member of Parliament, Sherod Duncan speaking in defence of the female M.P’s exploded soon after, objecting to the many abusive comments hurled throughout the day by Minister Dharamlall stating that this and other comments were totally unacceptable.
The female APNU+AFC MPs note that on every occasion that the Minister has to speak going back to 2020, the members on the opposition side especially the female MP’s, are forced to sit and listen to the vilest of verbal abuses and racial slurs. We will not accept this.
Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan has been suspended by the Speaker for his stance. This too we find unacceptable and unfair.
In several 2022 budget speeches these very female MP’s spoke of the unparliamentary tone, verbal abuse and racial slurs that plagues the house and the consistent failure of the Speaker to reign this abhorrent behaviour.
