The Alliance For Change calls upon the PPP government to immediately take steps to make the Kwakwani Linden road navigable. While the Ituni Linden leg is broken up from beginning to end the kwakwani leg is fine except for a few areas where even the four wheel trucks get stuck.
What should have been a pleasant one and a half hour trip if there were reasonable roads it has been reduced to 2 ½ to three hours of sheer torture. There is no way that a woman with advanced pregnancy can travel on that road unless she wants to lose her child.
I am calling on all women’s organizations and the women within the PPP to stand up and demand this road be fixed as the pregnant women and their unborn child are in jeopardy.
It is indeed sad that the Chinese operating in the area and bringing out countless truck loads of logs and in fact contributing to the deterioration cannot in the interest of the communities, assist. And what about the Russians. It is apparent that these companies have no empathy for the people of Ituni and Kwakwani.
Sources indicate that there are machineries owned by the government along the Linden Ituni Road not being put to use. The government obtained a grader from one of the bauxite company but against good advise to service same they put it to work and so the engine was damaged. It’s been a long time that they promised to send in another engine
The Government budgeted a large sum of money for the Amalia Falls road but ignores the villages mentioned.
The Government can scream budget cuts but it was told that they can come to parliament anytime with any legitimate demand for money and they will get the support of the AFC. The AFC is prepared to vote for any necessary funds to make this road navigable.
The AFC will be putting a motion before parliament calling upon the government to rehabilitate this road.
