Thursday, March 6, 1997 in Washington, the life of one of the world’s legendary fighters against colonialism and for free and fair elections in Guyana had come to an end.

Sixteen years have passed since the death of Dr. Cheddi B. Jagan and we in the Alliance for Change (AFC) want to pay tribute to him as one of the great leaders of Guyana.

Dr. Jagan is remembered for his commitment to end squander mania and extravagances in Government and improvement to the lives of the people, especially the most vulnerable and the working class.

In an interview he did in 1992, he was keen to emphasise that the salaries of his most senior people should be at a level that the economy can support. For such a mission and his genuine commitment to people regardless of race, colour or religion, the the nation embraced him as a leader.

As we observe the 16th death anniversary of Dr. Jagan, we in the AFC will continue to work hard to fulfill his dream and the dream of our other great leaders to bring greater unity, end racism, end economic mismanagement and white collar theft and mobilize our people to build this nation on the sound footing of one people with one democratic destiny.
