The Alliance For Change views with increasing alarm the further rapid escalation of the crisis in the Linden Wismar Community.
The prolonged and apparently intractable negotiations which have taken place since the murders of the three citizens on July 18th 2012 now threaten to plunge the entire country once again into an era of darkness.
The AFC’s previously expressed fears about slippage in the conduct of an independent forensic investigation by international experts, the urgent convening of a properly constituted independent international Commission of Inquiry and prolonged discussions about how, when and where such a Commission of Inquiry will operate, have now materialized.
The Alliance for Change has noted the expressions of hope for an amicable solution, expressed by the Chairman of Region 10 and wishes to urge that those negotiations be concluded with the utmost dispatch and urgency. The clear and apparent sloth on the part of the police in the conduct of the murder investigations together with the belated appeal for witnesses, the delay in the processing of the work permit of the independent ballistic expert and their curious public statements suggesting that the shooting might have been conducted by unknown persons have confirmed our worse fears about the integrity of any investigation conducted by the police.
Several communities have now been placed in severe jeopardy and commerce has been adversely impacted.
The Alliance for Change considers that any further protraction of the negotiations between the Community and the Government as unacceptable.
The Alliance For Change condemns all attacks on persons and private property.
The Alliance for Change considers the ultimate responsibility for the crisis and its subsequent prolongation lies with the Office of the President. It is of critical importance that any resolution of this crisis does not sacrifice the requirements of equal rights and justice. [END]
