Today March 8, 2011 is the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day.

The Alliance For Change takes this opportunity to salute in a very special way the women and girls of Guyana who make significant contributions in our homes, communities and across our dear land.

The theme for International Women’s Day as set out by the UN for 2011 is “Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women”. This theme calls upon all member states to ensure that our fairer sex enjoys a decent standard of living which invariably results when they receive proper education to function in the various disciplines.

As we celebrate nationally we should therefore commit to this responsibility so that better days can come for our women and girls.  In Guyana our female citizenry live under very challenging circumstances. Too often our women are victims who are beaten, bruised, scarred, broken, abused and sometimes killed.

We must all help them to be the best they can be, to bring forth the beauty and strength within themselves. We must continue to empower our women so that they can have

the courage to break free from the chains of limiting belief patterns and societal or religious conditioning that have traditionally kept women suppressed. We pray that Almighty God will continue to protect our women and grant them strength to fulfill their responsibilities and purpose.

                                                                                                                                    End.
