The AFC welcomes the long-delayed establishment of the long overdue Indigenous Peoples Commission (IPC); this is so despite our strong reservations concerning the inclusion of political appointees and functionaries as members who take away from the appearance of impartiality.

Article 149G of our Constitution states: “Indigenous peoples shall have the right to the protection, preservation and promulgation of their languages, cultural heritage and way of life”. To some, these are words only; and to the AFC this is the basis on which everything that touches, concerns, and affects our Indigenous brothers and sisters will be dealt with. We intend to give true and full meaning to this hallowed provision. The Party will also honour all provisions under the Amerindian Act 2006, including, making the payment of the 1.7B$ due, owing and payable by the State.

Therefore, in relation to working for the development of the Indigenous community and the preservation of their culture and heritage, the AFC unequivocally declares that “we will provide what the PPP/C failed to deliver.”
