The Alliance For Change wishes to express it’s dissatisfaction with the blatantly inaccurate headline that appeared in today’s Kaieteur News (Monday June 14, 2010) and the misinformation within the newscasts on the government owned radio station which we have all come to expect.

It is a sad day when media houses that pledges to serve the people of Guyana by “informing and educating” of events and issues occurring would deliberately publish false information, peddle it as the truth and seek to promote animosity and discord when there is none.

For many years now sections of the Media in Guyana have consistently failed the citizens of Guyana, by introducing gossip, hearsay and speculation as if they were facts and objective reporting.  This has gone on so long that these members of the Media no longer understand their role of service to accurately inform and the huge responsibilities that go with their work.  The fact that the major tenets of good journalism are deliberately ignored and that  “lies” from “sources” are deliberately peddled as honest, professional reporting of events highlights the levels to which some sections of the Media in Guyana have sunk.

As outlined in our press release distributed after our meeting on Saturday June 12th, 2010, we in the Alliance For Change are extremely proud of the success of our deliberations, the unified positions arrived at and the atmosphere of friendship and deep mutual respect which shaped this important discussion.  We understand that given the current political landscape where constructive discourse is rarely seen and “cuss-outs” are considered acceptable modes of behaviour, we in the AFC reiterate that we are called to a higher level.  Our focus continues to be on bringing real “change” to Guyana and to this end we will continue to operate at a higher standard of engagement which our members and supporters have come to expect from us.

Our Party holds dear the principles clearly outlined in our Constitution for the selection of our Candidates and contrary to speculations by Kaieteur News and the Government Information Agency there was never any possibility that these procedures would be disregarded.  All the nominees  for the positions of Presidential and Prime Ministerial candidates of the AFC for the 2011 elections, which more than likely will number more than two persons when received will be review by our National Executive Committee who will make the necessary recommendations.  Should the party be successful in its election bid in 2011 the two top positions will be rotated as voted on.

We therefore are elated to state that there are no “woes” plaguing the leadership of the party and we will not be distracted from proving to the people of Guyana that a vote for the AFC is the only way to change the madness that plagues Guyana Today.
