PRESS RELEASE
The AFC responds to the blatant lies peddled by an entity calling itself Livewire
The Alliance For Change (AFC) was made aware this afternoon of blatant lies and disinformation deliberately peddled by an entity pretending to be a news organisation called Livewire regarding the conduct of our press conference today, and seeks to set the record straight.
The AFC has always engaged Guyana’s media organisations and their representatives with the utmost of respect and decency. Since its emergence onto Guyana’s political landscape nearly two decades ago, the AFC has continued to host regular press conferences and informs accredited members of the media through the Media’s own official googlegroups and press groupings. Livewire’s representative seems unaware of the existence of these media groups and appears not be registered with them hence his lack of access to official information.
Today’s invitation to our press conference was no different in dissemination. The invitation was emailed at 9.33AM with the requisite zoom link included to two of the media’s groups, one of which has close to one hundred members. A simple check with any one of these members will confirm this delivery.
It can only be assumed that the employee at Livewire which does not appear to be a recognised accredited news organisation, was in a confused state – got the time wrong and set about to create a storm full of untruths and falsehoods which landed like a damp fuse.
We are proud that our press conference today had several representatives of the media participating at the appointed hour who clearly did not get the time wrong. The link to this press conference which is shared widely is testimony to this.
We note Livewire’s propensity to distort the facts, and we encourage their representative/s to become familiar with the internationally recognised protocols and behaviours governing participation in official press conferences.
As a political party that firmly upholds the principles of freedom of the press, the promotion of transparency and objectivity in reporting we will continue to invite all Bonafide members of the media to our press conferences but will not lower the expected high standards of behaviour to meet the few misfits who are clearly not committed to serious discussion on issues of national importance. The AFC thanks all progressive Media in Guyana who continue to service our country with distinction.
