STATEMENT OF THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

AFTER THE OPENING OF THE 12TH PARLIAMENT
ARTHUR CHUNG CONFERENCE CENTRE
Yesterday, the filing of the elections petition marked the start of the legal journey to the removal of the fraudulent and illegitimate PPP from office and our return to government. Today marks the start of the legislative journey.
Today I feel mixed emotions. I am indeed humbled and honoured to have been sworn in as Leader of the Opposition but I am cognizant and convinced that being in Opposition is not our rightful place. We were ousted from government by fraudulent means.
Nevertheless, we were legitimately elected to the Parliament. We did not get the rightful number of seats nor are we on the side of the house which we ought to be. But we will work within the framework of the Judicial system and the legislature to restore democracy to Guyana and return to our rightful place in government.
I am honoured and privileged to lead this is young, diverse and dynamic team of Parliamentarians. This team is the most diverse team of Parliamentarians in the history of Guyana. We all are, but our young parliamentarians and our women parliamentarians in particular, are brimming with enthusiasm and eagerness to get the people’s work done. Much of this work will be done in the communities, meeting citizens eyeball to eyeball. This will ensure the issues we raise in the National Assembly will be those that are raised by the people themselves and that will benefit them.
I can assure you and all of Guyana that we will ensure, that every day, starting today, the fraudulent PPP government knows will learn that it is not will no longer be business as usual.
We will give support only to those issues of which affect the sovereignty of our nation, public security [the welfare of our working people, the common good] and any other matter we determine to be in the national interest.
We are committed to a robust and aggressive legislative agenda to see the removal of the fraudulent PPP from government so that we can continue the work which we started in building Guyana and commence, in earnest the execution of the Decade of Development strategy for Guyana.
The Decade of development contains four main pillars which are
(i) Green State Development Strategy
(ii) Digital State
(iii) Education State
(iv) Petroleum State
You will hear during the debates our MPs speak to these issues. We are already aware of the squandermania that has occurred over the last month and the Regime will have to account for it. This includes but are not limited to
– Twenty Ministries in PPP as against
– Fifteen Ministries in APNU+AFC
– Parliamentary secretaries to be appointed
Gerry Gouveia – NSA to President
Lennox Shuman – To minister of public works on Civil Aviation
Ralph Ramkarran – To minister of Foreign Affairs on Border Issues
Carl Greenidge – Advisor on Border issues and on local content
Robert Persaud – Foreign Secretary
Shyam Nokta – Advisor on Local Content
Roger Luncheon – Advisor on Something
Rapid Economic Investigation team-
What were they paid? What did they discover?
GDF Promotion Costs by virtue of retroactivity.
Finally, I thank all of those thousands of persons who voted for the APNU+AFC Coalition and who we will stridently represent as we will represent the interest of all Guyanese during this 12th Parliament.
