The Regional Chairman and Councillors of Region Eight are not happy with the recent visit of the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Minister Norman Whittaker.

The Minister’s Office should have informed the Regional Chairman at least about the Minister’s impending visit but unfortunately no one saw it fit to do so.

As expected, at both meetings held in Campbelltown and Princeville, the Opposition was criticized for not approving the Amerindian Development fund Budget. Fortunately AFC Councillor, Naieem Gafoor was present at one of the meetings to defend the AFC’s position.

However, before the Flag Raising Ceremony on Independence night at Micobie, flyers chastising the Opposition for not approving fund were being distributed by the Regional Education Officer. The REO has enough on his plate ensuring that the children of Region Eight are successful at their CXC examinations with emphasis on English and math which they are weak at. His job is to ensure that teachers have proper accommodation, their salaries are up to date and that they get the necessary training needed to teach in today’s classrooms.

The Alliance For Change notes that while political parties are free to carry out their political activities, Independence Celebration is for all Guyanese; it is a time to reflect on how far we have come together as a nation. It is the time when recognize and applaud our heroes who fought valiantly for our Independence and won so that today we can enjoy being masters of our own nation. [END]
