The AFC celebrates this Indian Arrival Day with all Guyanese especially our Indo- Guyanese brothers and sisters.

Since the first boatload of East Indian indentured servants arrived in 1838, the sacrifice and struggle of Indians in Guyana have seen remarkable accomplishments which have redound to the benefit of all Guyana.

Our dear land has been enhanced by their culture, their cuisine, their intellect; and achievements in every professional and vocational sphere and activity. Guyana truly would not be Guyana without the East Indian heritage.

Their resilience and enterprise coming out of a true native thrift and industry must be lessons for all Guyanese.

Today these wonderful attributes, among others, must always be utilized to continually fashion and work out sensible methods of sharing and co-existing with the other ethnic groups for the avoidance of any potential of an ethnic predominance, and worse still an ethnic tyranny, which there is undoubtedly serious perceptions of.

The Alliance For Change sees, at the present time, the need for this kind of introspection at this time of celebration by this important sub-set of our Guyanese collective.

                                                                                                                        End.
