PRESS RELEASE
AFC RESPONDS TO QUERY ON STATUS OF DISCUSSIONS WITH APNU+AFC
In response to a question about the AFC’s current status in respect to the negotiation with APNU and the life support at its press conference, Chairman David Patterson made the following statement:
The AFC is willing to engage and take the talks off Life Support with the following broad base understanding between all concerned:
There is complete respect for the negotiation process by both parties and the terms of engagement adhered to by all concern.
All party and personal preconditions are put aside in the interest of what is good for the nation becomes our mantra and not party or personal gains.
That a clear mutually agreed Political Platform alternative to the current status quo be developed and presented jointly to the nation for consideration.
That the March 31, 2025, deadline is strictly adhered to, and nothing is agreed until all is agreed.
Additionally, the party leader Nigel Hughes made presentations on lack of a published feasibility study for the gas to energy project making point that there is a clear difference between a Due Diligence commissioned by a lender for their own inhouse purpose. Such a review is not a feasibility study and again he called on the Government to release the study done the Government that demonstrates the soundness of the project.
Mr. Hughes also addressed the vexed question of the need to conduct the next general and regional elections with a credible clean voters list. He highlighted the prerequisite to have biometrics as a critical component which is now internationally recognized and accepted. He called on GECOM to immediately send to the Government a suite of amendments to relevant laws required to facilitate the use of this proven voter verification method to prevent individual multi voting.
Various party members also made presentations on the current budget presented by the Government covering allocations to the youth and health portfolios and pointing to their deficiencies, lack of vision and adequacy. END
