The Alliance For Change is calling for the Political Tripartite arrangement to be made effective and talks to be resumed. The Party is convinced that this is the most viable option for moving Guyana forward.

The events of the past few weeks must not be allowed to negatively impact the future. Instead, let us use that as a learning experience and, together, work to move this country forward.

The AFC believes that what happened with the 2012 National Budget could have been avoided if the Tripartite Arrangement was allowed to proceed prior to the tabling and debate of the 2012 National Budget ,so that together, the three parties in Parliament would have had the opportunity to present a budget that addressed the needs of all the people of this country.

In light of the lessons we all learned, the AFC maintains that the peoples’ interest would be best served if we, as Parliamentary Parties sit around the table to negotiate in ‘good faith’. The AFC is not opposed to the government’s suggestion to involve other key stakeholders in such negotiations once their involvement is not politically driven.

There is a lot of work to the done and a lot that must be achieved. We see more and more, various stakeholders calling for a coming together of the Parties. The AFC is taking note of these pleadings  from civil society and we are prepared to work with the PPP/C administration and APNU to ensure that the resources of this country are distributed in an equitable manner and that all groups feel that they are afforded an equal opportunity to share in the national pie. This is what the people voted for on November 28, 2011, as their elected representative, whether in the Administration or as the opposition, we must honour the will of the people. [END]
