The entire body of the Alliance For Change expresses sympathy at the passing of Member of Parliament, Winston Murray. Though his brief illness served as a prelude to his death, it is still a shock; the pain of which is still as very acute. To his grieving family, friends, colleagues and associates therefore, we extend our collective sympathy and support in this difficult time.

Winston Murray served his country with a quiet dignity that is become rare within the body of senior public servants and officials. He never craved fame and publicity, but chose instead to engage in his activities with humility and a great sense of purposefulness. Those who worked with him knew of his reputation for research and preparation, and of the almost surgical manner in which he addressed issues. Whether you were on his side, or against him, he treated everyone with the same level of respect as is deserving of every human being.

There is no doubt that Guyana has lost a precious son and that his replacement is going to be difficult. We will all miss him and especially so in the National Assembly. But Winston Murray himself would have expected us as all, and especially those involved in the torrid fight against prejudice, oppression, injustice, and poverty, to pick up our cudgels and keep the battle going. He would have said for us as we must now say for him “Now from the mourning vanguard moving on dear Comrade I salute you and I say Death will not find us that we die.” (Martin Carter).

May his soul rest in peace.

End.
