It is with an immense sense of pride and humility that I welcome all of the members of the St. Lucia AFC Chapter into our family. What began as a dream of a few of us just four years ago has grown into a reality that is growing exponentially, not only in Guyana, but in every place where Guyanese work and reside. With your assistance and involvement, our labours will now be made easier, and our journey shorter. Please accept my apologies for being absent but my duties prevented me from being personally there. Nonetheless, I am confident that my brother and colleague Khemraj Ramjattan, MP will quite capably represent all of us in Guyana.

We Guyanese are deserving of a better life and are thirsting for Change wherever they may find themselves dispersed. Those of us called on to serve Guyana through the Alliance For Change, and other institutions for change, see this to be our patriotic duty and we are indeed humbled by the support and encouragement, and moreso, whenever it is, as is the case this evening, others like yourselves, join the fight for Change.

We hope to move Guyana from being a place of promise and potential to one of prosperity and plenty. This is very possible once the right government is in place. We cannot accept any longer, the mediocrity, insensitivity to people’s needs and desires, corruption and criminality which have become the defining features of government and governance in our dear homeland. Change is upon us and every one of us, whether home or abroad, has a sacred and patriotic duty to rise up to fashion and determine the new and better way of life that we are entitled to as citizens of Guyana and of this earth. We recognise that “change itself is not progress, but it is the price we have to pay for progress.”

The AFC is not therefore simply a political party that hungers after power, but a movement of consciousness that strives to make a difference in the lives of every citizen. Our immediate goal is to “Achieve a just, equitable and unified democratic state and developing-nation status for Guyana.” We believe therefore that every man, woman and child whose birth-right as a Guyanese, and not their ethnicity, is their inalienable entitlement to a happy, prosperous and peaceful wellbeing whether home or abroad.

You may ask yourselves, how can I help or get involved from so many miles away and the answer is simple. We live in an age where time and distance have become meaningless barriers, and so through telephone calls, emails, Facebook, Twitter and other social media, we can communicate our outrage at what is happening in our country in the same way as we can communicate our support for the good that we see from time to time.  And of course I would lying if I did not say we needed your financial support as well.

Congratulations once again; and may God guide and bless us all as we do what is right for our country, ourselves, and our children.
