PRESS RELEASE
PPP Hiding the Truth About Venezuela’s Plans Against Guyana
Guyana’s issues and contentions with Venezuela are getting more serious and complex by the week. Since the beginning of 2025, the citizens have witnessed the vicious attack on the GDF patrol unit in the Cuyuni River, in February, and the brazen intrusion into Guyana’s waters by a Venezuelan patrol vessel, the Guaiqueri PO-11, earlier in March.
The AFC demand answers, we demand the truth, and we demand that the sanctity of the country is not violated, not only by a lawless neighbour, but also by weak leadership within our country.
Shame on the PPP for allowing our country to be infiltrated and taken over by undesirables who are clear and present danger to all Guyanese. To date, there has been no official report made on either incident, such as would satisfy the anxious public as to how these incidents were allowed to take place, and how repeats of them will never be allowed to recur. We recall that similarly, there has been no report issued on the fatal helicopter crash of December 2023, when five heroes perished while on duty. Is the PPP hiding something from the people of Guyana? It is starting to appear that way.
Earlier in the week, the Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, known for his ramblings, made a profound statement, that seems to have just been glossed over by the government. Speaking at the Guyana Police Force’s – Inspectors and Sergeants Annual Conference, on March 13, 2025, Benn is quoted as making a most alarming statement. – "We know that there are some sleepers here, we put out a few already, we know that Maduro is saying that as of the 23rd of May, he will hold elections in Venezuela and he will appoint a governor and other officials of Guayana Esequiba,…" He then goes on to add – “I am saying today any person Guyanese or otherwise if it’s a Guyanese, who is appointed to be Governor of Essequibo and be placed at Anna Regina, we will charge that person for treason and lock them up…" Benn further acknowledged that among the thousands of Venezuelans here are "sleepers" who are being allowed to remain in the country and threaten our safety and national security.
Just as frightening, is the expectation that Venezuela, is expected by the Guyanese Government to try and hold its elections for the Governor of Essequibo, and to set up headquarters at Anna Regina, on the Essequibo Coast. Benn may be a rambler, but on this occasion, he has sounded the alarm bells as loud as he could. Apparently, no one higher-up is taking him seriously. Unfortunately, these two statements were not made by either the President or the Vice President, who are obviously more focused on getting re-elected than on protecting our sovereignty and preparing Guyanese for something awful on the horizon.
The PPPC as a government has proven time and time again that it has no stomach for a fight with Venezuela and instead chooses gimmickry and falsehoods to hide the reality from the Guyanese people of how bad the situation is.
No doubt, the majority of the PPPC cabal have their overseas accounts and get-away houses in nice safe and foreign places; but for the majority of us, we have to stay and fight for our country. When the going gets tough, the PPP/C leaders plan to run. Is this the leadership our beloved needs at this very critical time? All Guyanese regardless of their station in the society must be fully informed and motivated in these perilous times, nothing less will do.
