The revelations by the former high ranking PPP\/C executive member and sole nominee of the PPPC\u00a0 for the position of speaker of the current parliament,\u00a0 about the management of the country and the manner in which decisions are arrived at, by the Government in his article entitled the\u00a0 Kleptocratic Republic of Guyana, have confirmed the worst fears of the citizenry.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Mr Ramkarran S.C. disclosed that at the apex of corruption in Guyana is, \u201ca group of wealthy and influential\u00a0businessmen\u00a0who have high political connections.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Most revealing in his disclosure was the following; \u201cThey have access through their political connections, to information on potential opportunities that are likely to emerge in the near to medium term and\u00a0 are in a position to make investments now as to cash in on those opportunities down the road. The PPP leadership is supported and financed by all these groups and state decisions are influenced by their interests.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In short the opportunities for genuine investment,\u00a0fair and equitable economic advancement are restricted to a small group of politically connected\u00a0 PPP businessmen.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The consequence of this sort of bogus national development is the accelerated marginalization of persons who are outside of this group and the creation of a permanent underclass of citizens whose exclusion\u00a0from participation in the growth and development of the land of their birth is enduring.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the light of Mr. Ramkarran\u2019s disclosure,\u00a0 the AFC calls for the immediate release of the names of all contractors and businessmen who have been the beneficiaries of government contracts for sums in excess of G$1B and the publication of the circumstances in which they were awarded these contracts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The most\u00a0egregious revelation made by former high ranking insider\u00a0 was\u00a0 that\u00a0 \u201cthe reason why the Public Procurement Commission will never be established is that the PPP is a political organization that now represents a section of the petit bourgeoisie whose interests\u2026 conflict with acceptable standards of integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The AFC is of the opinion that the time has now come for Guyanese society to stand up and increase their agitation for the immediate establishment\u00a0 of the\u00a0 Public Procurement Commission as a matter of national urgency.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Guyana can no longer tolerate or withstand a government which is bent on perpetuating the corrupt and biased distribution of the country\u2019s wealth and opportunities for benefit of a politically connected few. [END]<\/p>\n
