{"id":4625,"date":"2013-06-12T13:42:10","date_gmt":"2013-06-12T18:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/afcguyana.com\/afcnew\/?p=4625"},"modified":"2013-06-12T13:42:10","modified_gmt":"2013-06-12T18:42:10","slug":"the-afcs-position-on-the-proposed-gpl-rate-increase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afcguyana.com\/afcnew\/?p=4625","title":{"rendered":"The AFC\u2019s position on the proposed GPL rate increase"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><b>When GPL made a loss before tax of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">G$9.4 billion<\/span> over the last two years; the taxpayers DONATED <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">G$12.5 billion.<\/span> <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WHAT DID GPL do with YOUR G$12.5 BILLION?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>GPL DID NOT REDUCE ELECTRICITY THEFT especially commercial theft which remained fixed for two years at 17.0%?This negligence caused <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">G$2.4 billion in lost revenue<\/span>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>GPL DID NOT REDUCE LINE LOSSES which worsen from 11.4% TO 14.6% over five years?This neglect triggered G$1.4 billion in lost revenue.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The AFC notes that in addition with anticipated decreases in the price of fuel internationally \u00a0GPL will save approximately $ 1.5 billion this year. Why therefore do we need to increase rates?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>GPL PAID ITS CEO G$4 MILLION EVERY month including free housing, vehicles, flights among the many other perks.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">T<\/span><\/b><b>AXPAYERS were made to \u00a0contribute &#8211; G$6 BILLION in 2012 TO GPL <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a<\/span>nd an additional $ 5 billion so far in 2013.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>GPL as a regular course of action asks some consumers to \u201cpre pay\u201d their electricity bills. The AFC feels that if the Government \u201cpre- pays\u201d the millions owed to GPL for electricity use at the various ministries this \u201cbail out\u201d would not be required.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>GPL was asked by parliament to address\u00a0 to address comprehensively the above concerns before asking for more monies. To date GPL has submitted no further information or proposed work plans to the Parliament.\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The AFC therefore REJECTS the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UNJUST<\/span> 26.7% tariff increases and the Government\u2019s attempt to lay blame on the opposition.
