FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — To all media November 3, 2026 PRESS RELEASE AFC statement on the brutal murder of Gavin Douglas – Enough is enough There must be no cover up in the investigation into the killing of Gavin Douglas. The findings of the investigation of his death must be made public. Douglas, a 32 year old laborer, was detained by ranks of the Guyana Police Force and taken to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. Reports are, that he was threatened and tortured while in custody. The postmortem on Douglas shows he died from blunt force trauma to the head. It also shows severe injuries to other parts of his body. This is not an isolated incident of abuse of persons by the police or while persons are in custody. It is not an isolated incident of a person dying while in police custody. It now appears the norm for the police to beat and torture citizens. This must stop. For too long, some ranks have been encouraged to take the law into their own hands without repercussions. The police no longer uphold the law but have become the law(less) and the rights of citizens are no longer guaranteed. This is a direct result of politicizing the police force. This is the result when the police no longer follow the force standing orders but the orders of their political masters. Guyana has declined into a state of lawlessness presided over by the government, upheld by the police and supported by the friends, family and favourites of the PPP. We, the citizens of Guyana must declare ‘enough is enough’. It is time to take back our country through legitimate means and decisive advocacy. The Alliance For Change calls for unity of opposition voices. All opposition political parties, their supporters, social media influencers, concerned citizens at home and in the diaspora must raise their voices against the PPP cabal. We may not agree on everything but, we must have a singular message – enough is enough! It is time to take Guyana back from the PPP dictators. We can do so within the parameters of the law.
