Georgetown<\/b> \u2013 APNU+AFC today held a briefing on the historic Cummingsburg Accord for the Diplomatic Community.<\/p>\n

Prime Ministerial Candidate Moses Nagamootoo led the APNU+AFC delegation which included Campaign Co-Chairs Joe Harmon and Raphael Trotman, Cathy Hughes, AFC General Secretary David Patterson. The meeting took place at Cara Lodge Hotel in Georgetown.<\/p>\n

Nagamootoo said that the meeting was critical.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to give the Diplomatic Community a brief as to the content of the Cummingsburg Accord and what would be our priorities when we assume government on May 12th,\u201d Nagamootoo explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are treating everyone as equal partners, as friends and that there is no need for anyone to have any reservations. We felt there was also need for an explanation as regards to distribution of new powers and how this will be done within the confines of consultation and consensus to bring about inclusiveness,\u201d Nagamootoo said.<\/p>\n

Nagamootoo also assured the diplomatic community that the APNU+AFC will not engage in vendetta or witch-hunting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWherever there have been wrong doing the judicial process will take its course,\u201d Nagamootoo explained.<\/p>\n

Nagamootoo said that he appealed to the Diplomatic Community to join the Coalition for calm during the campaign and election period.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want the international community, the embassies and missions here and Non-Governmental Organizations to join the APNU+AFC Coalition in appealing for calm and that there should be no appeal for violence or to ethnicity and racism,\u201d Nagamootoo said.<\/p>\n

Campaign Co-Chairman Harmon also endorsed Nagamootoo\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an opportunity for us to brief the diplomats about the Cummingsburg Accord, what it is, what it purports to do and the way it is going to change the political culture of Guyana,\u201d Harmon said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had concerns on our emphasis on domestic violence and corruption and question about the establishment of the Public Procurement Commission and they also wanted to ensure that the political temperature over this period is calm,\u201d Harmon added in echoing Nagamootoo\u2019s call for calm.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the US embassy, Canadian and British High commissions, the European Union, the Indian High Commission and the Brazilian and Russian embassies among others.<\/p>\n
