The\u00a0 Alliance\u00a0 For\u00a0 Change\u00a0 has\u00a0 noted\u00a0 the\u00a0 harried\u00a0 attempts\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 government\u00a0 to<\/p>\n
turn\u00a0 the\u00a0 situation\u00a0 at\u00a0 Linden\u00a0 into\u00a0 a\u00a0 ‘blame-game’,\u00a0 the\u00a0 latest\u00a0 attempt\u00a0 being<\/p>\n
contained\u00a0 in\u00a0 an\u00a0 article\u00a0 in\u00a0 today’s\u00a0 edition\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 Guyana\u00a0 Times.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u00a0 is\u00a0 most<\/p>\n
unworthy of the government to engage in these theatrics in such a dire situation<\/p>\n
as the national finds itself in.<\/p>\n
As we have said before, Linden must be the top priority the Government must re-<\/p>\n
engage the representatives at the negotiating table with all urgency and in good<\/p>\n
faith.<\/p>\n
Blaming\u00a0 the\u00a0 AFC\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 Linden\u00a0 situation\u00a0 is\u00a0 utterly\u00a0 ridiculous\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 vilest\u00a0 of<\/p>\n
politics. The citizens of this country are well aware that it is the Government who<\/p>\n
attempted\u00a0 to\u00a0 unilaterally\u00a0 impose\u00a0 a\u00a0 tariff\u00a0 hike\u00a0 on\u00a0 electricity\u00a0 rates\u00a0 at\u00a0 Linden.\u00a0 It\u00a0 is<\/p>\n
the\u00a0 Government\u00a0 controlled\u00a0 Police\u00a0 Force\u00a0 that\u00a0 opened\u00a0 fire\u00a0 on\u00a0 the\u00a0 protesters\u00a0 at<\/p>\n
Linden\u00a0 that\u00a0 resulted\u00a0 in\u00a0 three\u00a0 persons\u00a0 being\u00a0 murdered\u00a0 and\u00a0 many\u00a0 others\u00a0 injured.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 government\u00a0 has\u00a0 frustrated\u00a0 every\u00a0 effort\u00a0 to\u00a0 have\u00a0 the\u00a0 situation\u00a0 at\u00a0 Linden<\/p>\n
peacefully resolved including using the joint services in the most recent attacks on<\/p>\n
people asleep in their homes in the wee hours of the morning.<\/p>\n
Instead of attempting to malign the AFC, the Donald Ramotar led administration<\/p>\n
should explain why after almost a month since the outbreak of security force led<\/p>\n
violence, his administration has failed to visit the community of Linden. They went<\/p>\n
up to Kwakwani but refused to visit Linden. It is clear that they have no intention<\/p>\n
of\u00a0 listening\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 people\u00a0 on\u00a0 Linden\u00a0 or\u00a0 addressing\u00a0 the\u00a0 many\u00a0 problems\u00a0 affecting<\/p>\n
that community including the highest unemployment rate in the country.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 AFC\u00a0 has\u00a0 been\u00a0 at\u00a0 the\u00a0 forefront\u00a0 of\u00a0 unearthing\u00a0 and\u00a0 highlighting\u00a0 government<\/p>\n
corruption\u00a0 and\u00a0 ineptitude\u00a0 and\u00a0 will\u00a0 continue\u00a0 to\u00a0 do\u00a0 so.\u00a0 The\u00a0 government\u00a0 is\u00a0 fully<\/p>\n
aware of this and would want to keep the AFC otherwise engaged. Using Linden<\/p>\n
as\u00a0 a\u00a0 pawn\u00a0 in\u00a0 this\u00a0 manner\u00a0 is\u00a0 disrespectful\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 real\u00a0 and\u00a0 pressing\u00a0 concerns\u00a0 of<\/p>\n
Lindeners.\u00a0 The\u00a0 AFC\u00a0 is\u00a0 disciplined,\u00a0 committed\u00a0 and\u00a0 resolved\u00a0 to\u00a0 stamping\u00a0 out<\/p>\n
corruption and ensuring justice and fair play.<\/p>\n
In\u00a0 all\u00a0 of\u00a0 this,\u00a0 the\u00a0 AFC\u00a0 position\u00a0 is\u00a0 that\u00a0 the\u00a0 primary\u00a0 concern\u00a0 must\u00a0 be\u00a0 getting\u00a0 the<\/p>\n
community\u00a0 of\u00a0 Linden\u00a0 back\u00a0 to\u00a0 some\u00a0 form\u00a0 of\u00a0 normalcy\u00a0 but\u00a0 at\u00a0 the\u00a0 same\u00a0 time<\/p>\n
ensuring that justice is not sacrificed. Our desire is for the people of Linden to live<\/p>\n
normal\u00a0 and\u00a0 peaceful\u00a0 lives,\u00a0 with\u00a0 justice\u00a0 and\u00a0 fairness\u00a0 and\u00a0 without\u00a0 the\u00a0 burdens\u00a0 of<\/p>\n
unconscionable electricity rates, a stagnated economy, deprivation of information<\/p>\n
inflicted\u00a0 by\u00a0 the\u00a0 government’s\u00a0 refusal\u00a0 to\u00a0 grant\u00a0 operating\u00a0 licences\u00a0 to\u00a0 private\u00a0 TV<\/p>\n
stations wanting to expand into Linden, and now turning Linden into a ‘war-zone’<\/p>\n
with the presence of heavily armed combat troops patrolling the community.<\/p>\n
The AFC has and will always condemn the destruction of property. The burning of<\/p>\n
the primary school is unacceptable and has no part in a peaceful demonstration.<\/p>\n
This was a criminal activity and we condemn it as such. This act of arson must be<\/p>\n
fully investigated. We are glad that the law abiding citizens of Linden have turned<\/p>\n
over\u00a0 the\u00a0 suspects\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 police.\u00a0 This\u00a0 shows\u00a0 the\u00a0 responsible\u00a0 behaviour\u00a0 of\u00a0 the<\/p>\n
people of Linden.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 AFC\u00a0 will\u00a0 staunchly\u00a0 defend\u00a0 the\u00a0 legitimate,\u00a0 fundamental\u00a0 and\u00a0 constitutional<\/p>\n
right of any person or group to protest against injustices and oppression and will<\/p>\n
with the same fervour condemn all criminal activities.<\/p>\n
